"We are all subjected in our everyday lives to tests which will show if we will be loyal to Jesus under all circumstances. Persecutions may at some time be added to these. Tests of whatever kind are not pleasant but we must remember when undergoing them that our Lord has been tested, tempted in every way that we are. We serve a Master not only of infinite power but of infinite understanding."

"He is our life. When he shall appear we shall be like him, with bodies of humiliation changed into bodies of glory. Peter tells us that this partaking of divine nature is God’s promise to us, but while we rejoice in this knowledge let us not forget the example of Abraham: “And so, after he had patiently endured he obtained (fulfilment of) the promise” (Hebrews 6:15)."

"Follow me" said the King. The call is so simple any child can understand it. Its meaning is so sublime that no philosopher, be he ever so clever, can exhaust the infinite meaning of the mystery-its genius. It is not misery-it is joy. It is not doubt-it is conviction. It is not fear-it is blessed assurance. Disciples are bond servants, but also friends who know their Master’s will. They are not dragging themselves along reluctantly hoping that their misery may win them some reward. They follow gladly for love’s sake, trusting that because he lives, they will live also.

The genius of discipleship-the transformation-touches every aspect of life. Being called, conviction, trust, surrender, purity, peace, prayer, service."

"To "be like him" is our cherished hope. We have, moreover, the earnest desire to be able to work together both now and in the coming Kingdom of God upon the earth, bringing others to know the truth and saving grace of God’s Word as revealed in the Scriptures and in the teachings of Jesus Christ, for only in this way can mortal man come to "know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." "This is life eternal." (John 17:3)"

"Many parts of the Psalms are devoted to prayers for the Kingdom of God. Our own prayers should re-echo the same fervent desires. Whether our words be the simple "Thy Kingdom come" or prayers "for the peace of Jerusalem" it matters not; but the kingdom should be our constant and greatest hope."

"God has forgiven us far greater sins than we are called upon to forgive, and in deep thankfulness for His mercy and grace, we ought always to hasten to forgive. The penalty for failure to forgive is disastrous: the unforgiving saint remains unforgiven (Matthew 6:15)."

"By the word of God we sustain our hope that, as a result of our pledge of allegiance in immersion, supplemented by that day by day carefulness in thought, in word, in action, by earnest hope, by fervent prayer and honest endeavour, we may be permitted an entrance into that "glory such as eye hath not seen nor ear heard" (1 Corinthians 2:9), the Kingdom of our Lord God and His anointed. There and there only shall we find, not only the end of war among nations, at the command of our Great King, but also that "peace which passeth understanding" (Philippians 4:7)."

"Jesus said, “Continue in my word” ... He shows approval only to steady growth and progress in the knowledge of his word and patient continuance in that narrow path which he has laid down for us ... Continuing in the word requires diligent study of the Scriptures. Without that study we fail, and still more do we fail if we refuse to subject our lives to the teachings of those Scriptures. Mere intellectual knowledge of the truth without sincere subjection to it, will only condemn us in the end."

"The Psalmist could see for himself as others in his place, seas roar and mountains tremble, and yet be still, and know that "there is a river, whose streams make glad the city of our God"; and we can echo his words when the sea and the waves roar now, and some men fear, and some men doubt and some blaspheme, and we can be still and know, "that our redemption draweth nigh."

"Though all flesh is grass and the glory of man as the flower of grass, he has been begotten of the word of God that liveth and abideth (1 Peter 1:22-25). His godly character is securely laid up in the record of God’s “Book of Life,” (Philippians 4:3; Luke 10:20; Revelation 3:5) and the crown of righteousness which fadeth not away awaits him, to be given by the Lord in the day of His appearing (2 Timothy 4:8)."

"A leaf is not a leaf simply because it is fastened to a tree. It must take its life, its colour, its shape, its character, all that it has must be from the tree, or it becomes dead. So with ourselves, fellowship implies all this. All that we are, all we have, all we can be, is of the Lord."

"Preserving the way of the saints is central to our remembrance of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. He, whose death we commemorate in bread and wine, not only “pondered the path of his feet” but fulfilled all that His Father asked of him, to such an extent that he became the very Way itself. He is the one of whom Peter wrote, “For even hereunto were you called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps” (1 Peter 2:21). These are the steps to watch and follow."

"There is something very beautiful and hopeful in that expression,-“the God of peace,” ... God will bring peace upon earth, but of course in harmony with His own divine principle of glory to Him in the highest first, then peace on earth, and good will toward men."

"A man might lose his reason trying to grasp the idea of unending space or attempting to imagine how there could possibly be a limit. We cannot understand this matter any more than we can search the mind of God. We are finite beings but we are intelligent enough to grasp the fact that there is infinity around us. We are imperfect beings but we are intelligent enough to form the concept of perfection. This is the true conception of God, infinite and perfect."

"It is our privilege and joy to be committed to the call of Christ, for thereby are our lives transformed, and we become part of the Israel of God, called out and sanctified, looking always for the Kingdom which we believe most surely will be established in the sight of all men: "But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he has prepared for them a city." (Hebrews 11:16)"

" ... we may read many books and study the prophecies, we may increase our knowledge in these things, but if we are not careful it is possible to lose the simple spirit of the Truth as shown by Jesus. It is possible to make the Truth a profession, and not a confession of our own unworthiness. Isaiah expresses the right attitude in these words: "For all those things has my hand made, and all those things have been, says the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at my word." (Isaiah 66:2)"

"Ezekiel had seen the vision of the glory of the Lord leaving the city and ascending from the mount that lieth on the east of the city (Olives), and was heartened when he later saw it return. Our faith is his. We, too, wait in patience and conviction. His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives yielding to the force of a rending earthquake and sending forth a stream of living water. May we be granted the blessing of sharing in the inheritance Jesus has gained."

"Our faith in God provides us with motivation to go on to do more good works, as we are instructed in the scriptures. Faith and works come together and link hands ... They walk together in harmony in a life that is to be pleasing to God, just as they did in Jesus. And now, as we think again about his example, we marvel both at his unquenchable faith in his Father, and at the zest with which he went about doing his Father’s business. Both were absolutely right; they were always completely in balance."

"We may project our vision forward, and see the Son of Man as he "comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also who pierced him: and all tribes of the earth shall wail because of him." (Revelation 1:7) As we do, we may well consider that those whose citizenship is in heaven will not then wail; they will rejoice in the salvation then revealed. We may take our vision forward again, and once more stand beside John as he watches "the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven"; (Revelation 21:2) and hear the declaration, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God". (Revelation 21:3)"

"... We see the supremacy of our Master in the conflicts of life, in the conventions of life, in the contradictions of life, and, above all, in the conclusion of life. In all spheres he was triumphant, and by his conquest we have the hope sure and steadfast that, though we may not achieve a success like his, yet our own small victories by his grace, will enable us to share in the full fruits of his work when he shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. If we might sum up his glory in one sentence we should say, "This was the victory that overcame the world, even his faith." By putting all our faith in God and acting accordingly, we can attain with him to the resurrection of life.

Our final picture is that of a garden in which there was a weeping woman. In the same place was a man, but though she spoke to him, she did not take much notice of him, until he said, "Mary!" Then she said in glad amazement: "Rabboni!"

"The Bible is to each of us the voice of God as much as was the angel’s voice to Paul that stormy night, and because of this we are able, like him, to be cheerful in the storm, and to ask our fellow-voyagers to be of good cheer also. The sky is dark and the sea rough, but we are full of confidence as to the issue of the voyage, because we can say, "I believe God that it shall be even as it was told me". (Acts 27:25)"
