"God is love and life and light. The love of Jesus was shown in his sacrifice. In him we have eternal life and he was the light of the world. Peter, speaking of the approved, says "You also, as living stones, are built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 2:5)"

"Every important doctrine can be placed under one of two headings: as affecting our attitude towards God, or towards man. It is only reasonable that this should be the case, since the foundation of all morality is of the same twofold character. The Lord Jesus said that all the Law and the Prophets depended upon the two fundamental precepts of the law of love: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart", "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". All sound doctrine is simply elaboration of these principles."

"When these things are preached (the Gospel of salvation), it must be with the same motive as that of the apostles, and, we are persuaded, that of our early brethren. Polemical though their style may sometimes appear, it was born of conviction that nothing mattered so much to men as the Truth of God, of which they sought earnestly to persuade others by all the skill they could muster."
