"We know what we ought to be doing, having taken upon ourselves the Lord Jesus Christ, having become his bondslaves. We should behave as obedient servants worthy of his name. If we remain faithful throughout our life, if we strive to keep in daily remembrance the Lord whom we serve, then real treasure awaits us at the judgement. There will be no fear or trembling out of a guilty conscience, but a quiet confidence that our Master knows us by name as his friends."

"The whole life of Jesus, his words, his works, all that he said and did and was, are evidence of the truth that he was the Son of God, that in him God had drawn near to men again and was working in and through His beloved Son to draw men to Him. The divine attestation at his transfiguration contained also a plea: "This is my beloved Son: hear him" (Mark 9:7)."

"Faith is the foundation, hope is the driving force, and love is the quality which may make our efforts acceptable. Human beings are weak and faulty, but if we believe in Christ with all the heart and love him with the fervour demanded by his perfection, we shall rise to our full stature and reach the highest standard possible for our frail nature."

"It took another tree to put right all that is wrong through Adam’s disobedience, for Peter records that Jesus “bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we being dead to sins should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Here was no forbidden tree, but it meant death in its partaking, which Jesus did so willingly, in love and obedience. And see where the resolve was really tested—in a garden! The first Adam, made in the image of God, was led from a tree out of a garden; the second Adam, made in the image of the invisible God, was led from a garden out to a tree. How Scripture weaves its intricate patterns!"

"Is beauty a mere by-product of the process, or has God provided beauty as an additional gift to man? We fully believe that the beautiful in nature is bestowed by God for man’s spiritual and emotional enrichment. Certainly no normally endowed person can look on the colour of sea and sky, on the changing cloud formations, on sunset glow, or the shimmer of the moon over the ocean, without a feeling of awe, emotional satisfaction and thankfulness that such glory and beauty has been revealed in nature; and will endorse with emphasis the Psalmist’s words: "O LORD, how manifold are your works! in wisdom have you made them all: the earth is full of your riches." Psalm 104:24"

"Too great an emphasis cannot be laid upon the spirit of thankfulness in God’s saints. It betokens an attitude of mind sensitive to all God’s benefits and requirements and therefore ensures that what God has created intrinsically “good”, to be received by His people, is “good” to them because they use it aright. It is impossible to do otherwise if the thanksgiving be sincere, from the heart and out of a good conscience."
