"The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is a personal Father, yet not a man, though we faintly borrow our image from Him. He is glorious and incorruptible in His substance; unchangeable in His nature, one with the universe, clothed with eternal light and power. He fills heaven and earth by His spirit, which is one with Him. By this He upholds all things, and knows and controls everything. "Honour and majesty are before him; strength and beauty in his sanctuary. Who in heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord? Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised. His greatness is unsearchable. I will speak of the glorious honour of his majesty; to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom."

"God is a Saviour to those who believe and confess the Lord Jesus Christ: without in any way compromising His own righteousness and judgement, God forgives those who come to Him in faith through the appointed Mediator; He grants them salvation and by His grace they are restored to a right relationship with Him. This is the wonder of salvation: the renewal of fellowship between a man and his Maker, between a sinner and God his Saviour."

"Right behaviour, governed by the characteristics of God, causes men and women to glorify God. No wonder we are termed in Peter’s letter, “a royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:12). Just as the priests were to manifest God to Israel, so now we are to do the same to the people of our day. We are to be representatives of God, showing the way to approach Him. This representation of God has to develop in our lives. It is a lifetime’s process that is never completed, but we have to try our best. The virtues of God have to grow in our characters if we are to have the hope of eternal life."

"Remember, before we found God’s truth in the gospel, we were all seekers. We wanted something better than the world could give. Maybe some of us did not know what we were looking for, others may have had the truth thrust upon them, and some have had to seek it the hard way with prayer and tears. Indeed, maybe at first some of us did not recognise it for what it is. There are many ways of seeking. But we must be seekers, even as Jesus was."

"As your days, so shall your strength be" (Deuteronomy 33:25)  Scripture helps us tremendously to interpret our difficulties as the index of our resources. We can unlock ourselves. If life were just a sunny picnic, never broken up by wind and rain, the greater part of our human resources would remain untapped.

Buried seeds spring into life. We never thought that we had it in us. The big struggle not only becomes our revealer but our unearther. Difficulties are the stones out of which all worthy characters are built."

"Prayer daily at the door of God’s heavenly court was David’s strength. Converse with the God of heaven, in reverence, in trust, in pleading, in helplessness, sustained the man who was living on the knife’s edge. The Lord Jesus Christ found in the experiences of David a remarkable parallel with his own last days, when he was brought to Calvary and was encircled by his enemies. Escape there was none: deliverance was there in plenty. As David had faced the lion and the bear, so our Lord faced death. "Into your hands I commit my spirit" (Psalm 31:5) ... On the third day the Lord God opened the lion’s mouth and brought forth His beloved Son to glorious lifeand the lion lay dead, death slain for ever by the perfect righteousness of Christ and the faithfulness of the God of heaven."
