"With confidence and hope let us look forward to the final glorious consummation of God’s purpose, and the second coming of the Lord which will bring union with him in the new world that God is preparing for those who believe, and in which at long last they will dwell with him and he shall dwell with them, as recorded in Revelation 21:3: "The tabernacle of God is with men ... they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God." Then as foretold by the Lord Jesus shall the King say unto them: "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world" (Matthew 25:34). In that day his prayer and ours, "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth", will be fulfilled in its every meaning and the prophet Zechariah’s words will see fulfilment: "Behold, all the earth sitteth still and is at rest" (Zechariah 1:11)."

"Well or ill, happy or sad, at work or leisure, with others or alone, we dwell within our Father’s purposeful providence. As we become increasingly conscious of that certainty, nothing will rob us of the joy of submission to His will. And though in comparison to the scale upon which Jesus manifested the fruit of the Spirit our own efforts must seem minute, they are nevertheless an essential part of following him who made it his meat and drink to do his Father’s will."

"... "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). Jesus, God’s beloved Son, the one in whom He was well pleased, His Servant in whom He delighted, died in an act of love for his Father and his friends. We remember his agony of body and mind, but let us remember too the glory and the joy of his victory. And let us pray earnestly for the day when his friends will raise their voices in praise and adoration. Perhaps words similar to those of the Queen of Sheba will come to mind in those days: "Blessed be the LORD your God, which delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he you king, to do judgment and justice". (1 Kings 10:9)."

"Behold therefore the goodness and the severity of God: on them that fell severity: but on you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness" (Romans 11:22). The goodness that God has provided is Christ our high priest. We can only be blessed with goodness if we continue to abide in him. Jesus is able to sympathise with our weaknesses because he has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet without sin. What Jesus wants us to do is to place our burdens on him in order that we are free to express "goodness". When we try to be useful, gentle and kind let us not boast of moral excellence but rather recognise that we are not in any way intrinsically "good."

"What does the majesty of Christ mean to us of the present age? What place does he occupy in our thoughts as we go about our daily tasks? Do we merely revere him for the greatness of his moral achievements as a Son of Man? Is our reaction to his teaching just one of intellectual assent? Or is he to us a living personal reality in whom all the truth of God’s Word finds its centre; one who offered himself completely that we might be reconciled to God, receive the remission of sins and ultimately life in the fullest sense? ..."
