"In the Lord Jesus Christ we behold the Man in whom compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and long-suffering met in all their fulness and who is, above all else, the embodiment of the love of the God who cried out to His people, "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love" (Jeremiah 31:3). Let our response be to clothe ourselves with Him and the qualities which He personifies."

"If we say that we are the children of God, we ought to love one another, for “every one that loveth has been born of God” (1 John 4:7). This is the true test of our love for God, for how can we say that we are God’s children if we are not striving to be like him? John goes much further than saying that God loves; he says, God is love. This fact can only be apprehended through knowledge and experience—knowledge of God’s dealings in history, and experience of his love in our lives. God has created the heavens and the earth. He is a righteous Judge. He gave to his people precious promises. He guided them through all their difficulties and succoured them when in danger. These acts of God revealed his attributes to his people, for they were acts of love, and testified to his concern for their salvation."

"Let us develop a faith that pleases God by the study and reception of His word into our hearts, nurturing a hope that holds us as we hold fast to it, with growth in a love that reaches upward to God and outward to each other. We shall thus secure a balance which is the mark of the divine way of life—heart and head combined directing the life. With faith robust, hope constant, and love aflame, we move to the perfection of manhood in Christ Jesus. Is that our goal?"
